Marching Band Design

Drill design is the foundation of the visual representation of the story told by the performers on the field. In designing the drill for each movement of the performance, the drill writer must consider the overarching story and decide how movement, form, and position will convey that story to an audience 30 yards away. The skill of the performers, instrumentation, props, and ensuring balanced sound are essential considerations when designing each set and placing each performer on the field. What ends up being a multi-layered, full-field production begins as a collection of dots; thoughtful geometry and choreography enable the transformation from dots to visual design.
